How to Properly Backup Your eDoc Organizer
How to properly backup your eDoc Organizer data depends upon the edition of eDoc Organizer you are using.
eDoc Organizer Cloud Edition
If you are using eDoc Organizer cloud edition, you are all set. You don’t need to worry about backing up your documents. As part of the cloud service, your data is stored in secure Microsoft data centers. Not only is each document stored on multiple secure hard drives to protected against hard drive failure, but it is also securely stored in a different datacenter hundreds of miles away to protect against natural disasters. But what if you accidentally delete a document? Don’t worry, we have you covered there as well. All documents deleted in eDoc Organizer cloud automatically go to the recycle bin. You can easily recover a document, if you accidentally delete it from the recycle bin.
eDoc Organizer On-Premise Edition
There are a couple of different options when it comes to backing up your documents stored in eDoc Organizer On-Premise edition.
eDoc Organizer Online Backup Service The easiest and recommended way to back up your documents in the On-Premise edition is to use the eDoc Organizer Online Backup Service. 5 GB storage is included in your On-Premise subscription, but you can upgrade to 100 GB in your On-Premise online account. This not only provides you a secure offsite backup, but it also gives you the ability to access your documents from any computer or mobile device on the go. You can select this backup option via the eDoc Organizer Manager application.
eDoc Organizer Local Backup You can also backup your eDoc On-Premise edition data to an external hard drive or network location. As long as you backup to the same location, eDoc Organizer will create an incremental backup shortening the time it takes to create a new backup.
Please note: When you create a local backup from eDoc Organizer On-Premise, eDoc Organizer creates a backup of both the documents and the database. Hence the backup consists of two parts:
- The database backup file that has the “*.eobx” extension, and
- A backup of all your documents in a folder called 'Documents' alongside the database backup file.
Both of these parts are needed to successfully restore the backup data. Please ensure that you copy both of these to your external hard drive or network share to ensure that you are able to successfully restore the backup data.
